Final Project

Create a brain based unit that you will use after this class that incorporates ideas from the book and others students. Keep in mind the eigth Multiple Intelligences as you design the lessons, and especially the assessment. If you want more information on Multiple Intelligences let me know and I will send you a packet that I put together for staff development workshops. You may complete the unit using your districts' template or any other method you are comforable with. Please post a summary on the blog for others and send a copy to me by snail mail at 936 Linden Ave, Rice Lake Wi 54868. Have fun and learn lots!!! Thanks again for taking the class. Barney Slowey

Chapter 1

1)After reading this chapter what should we be doing differently in our classrooms and schools. What ways would you suggest we start making changes needed if we are too meet the needs of all students.
2) In what ways might you translate the principles presented in the chapter into practical, everyday useful methods of teaching.
3) If you were to plan your next steps for making your curriculum more brain compatible what would I be seeing you do differently in your classes.

Introductions

Please introduce yourself. Tell who you are, where you teach, what you teach, what your hobbies are, and where you like to vacation.

Welcome

Welcome to our blog for Brain Compatible Teaching and Learning. I hope this class will enhance your teaching skills and that you will have fun learning new ideas and methods from a great teacher, Martha Kaufeldt. However, we will all learn from each other as we share our practice and experience. You will be on your own and one of the things others have said about online learning is that especially if you have a family, this method allows you to complete your work when you have time. You shouldn't have any trouble finishing the class on time and the final is a unit that you will use in the near future that encompases the information you learn from your reading and sharing. I would like the unit snail mailed to me and I like to share these units with others as I deliver staff development to other teachers. If you do not want me to share it please let me know. I believe that one of our obligations is to help other professionals hone their craft. So basically you will read a chapter and respond to the three questions and if there are things that you can try, do it and report it back to us as to how it worked. When you finish with the chapters, complete the unit and put a summary on the blog and mail me the finished copy. I think that with the reading and thinking about the reading as well as trying some things out, and responding to the blog it will take you about 40-45 hours. The class is over February 23 and I will send in grades to St Thomas and when you recieve the grade send in for the transcript. Please do not do it before as they will not respond. I hope you have a great experience and fun learning. If I can be of any help let me know. If for some reason you can't complete the course by the 23rd let me know and we will arrange an extension. Have a great time! Thanks for taking the course. Barney Slowey
